Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Topper Review, 3 Inch Thick, 4 Pound Density twin — Great topper for back pain

3 Inch Thick, 4 Pound Density Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Pad Bed Topper twin--best memory foam mattress topper

In high school, I strained a muscle on the left side of my back. While I experience a mild discomfort every day, my back bothers me most when I’m trying to sleep because the muscle that aches does not receive any support as I lie down. Believing that my back would benefit from a foam mattress that contours to my body, I bought a cheap $15 topper from a drug store. Unfortunately, it didn’t provide me with enough support, and I’ve been tossing and turning in bed ever since and whatever I do to relieve my muscle is reversed each night. Fed up with my aching back and sleepless nights, I read a lot of memory foam mattress topper reviews before finally deciding to purchase this one.

Memory Foam Solutions’ 4 Pound, 3 Inch Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Pad Bed Topper seemed like the popular and quality choice and the only one I could find at a price that even a full time grad student could afford. I ordered the Twin sized mattress for less than $90 withPURGreen Certified free shipping. The larger sizes vary in the $100-$165 range. These mattresses are even PURGreen Certified, meaning they are safe from harmful chemicals and meet EPA standards. After changing my sheets, I find that my old mattress topper became an unsettling deep yellowish orange color and have no idea if it’s the result of time or a questionable chemical makeup; it’s great to know that the new topper is totally safe for me to sleep on.

I will say that other memory foam mattress topper reviews for this product were right; when I received the mattress, it had this very strong chemical odor to it. I’ve experienced this before with other products so I wasn’t alarmed, although I knew that I wouldn’t be able to sleep until the smell was gone. I aired it out for 3 days and finally tried it out. It’s a good thing that I waited for the smell to go away because it also gave the topper time to expand. I’ve also read reviews from people experiencing rips and tears on their mattresses. While I’ve only had this mattress for a couple of weeks and haven’t noticed anything major, I saw slight nicks in the foam and had bits of foam come off when I first put the topper on the bed. I doubt it will ever tear in half, but the nicks look slightly bigger.

Now let me go back a bit. While researching memory foam mattresses, I learned about Indentation contours my body perfectly and supports my back--best memory foam mattress topperLoad Deflection (ILD), or basically how soft or firm a mattress is. As far as I’ve been able to tell, Memory Foam Solutions’ topper doesn’t have an ILD rating. I do know that it has a 4 lb density, and at 3 inches thick, this topper feels pretty soft when I press my hand into it, but not so much so that it squishes down like a marshmallow. I’m not a very heavy person, so I don’t feel completely engulfed when I lie on it, which wasn’t what I was looking for anyway. Unlike my old topper, which literally felt only like foam, this one has a nice cushion-y feel. It’s heat activated, so it contours my body perfectly and supports my back when I sleep.

Pros:

  • The affordable price
  • PURGreen Certified
  • No discoloration
  • High quality memory foam

Cons:

  • The smell
  • Prone to slight tearing

I don’t want to come across as one of those memory foam mattress topper reviews that claim the impossible. I’m not saying that this is a miracle mattress that completely healed my back pain, but it does exactly what I hoped it would: it contours to my body, allowing me a more comfortable, lasting, and better night of sleep.Add to Cart
