As recent newlyweds, my husband and I were in need for a good, solid mattress. We were using an airbed for far too long, and it was much too buoyant and firm to last us for years – much fewer months – to come. Given our varying sleeping habits and preferences, this proved to be a much harder task than we expected. We tried out so many mattresses in stores, neither one of us satisfied with the other’s picks, which we decided to give up. However, my husband read a gel memory foam mattress review and was convinced memory foam would be able to adjust to both of our bodies, thereby settling our dispute for good. Before I knew it, we bought a mattress online.
Good Investment
We bought the queen size Ultimate Dreams 13 Inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress from Dreamfoam Bedding for less than $715 with free shipping. It was a little pricier than we would’ve liked, but it was 70% cheaper than retail and cost way less than the ones that caught our eyes at the stores. We also had a budget wedding so we could afford it. My husband found cheaper memory foam mattresses, but I was concerned about the quality of a bed that only cost a couple hundred. Sleeping is an investment, and as I see it, just over $700 is a pretty good deal. Plus, it comes with a 20 year warranty and is CertiPUR-US certified so we can rest knowing we’ve made a sound investment on a safe mattress.
Online to Bed in Under Four Days
I order a lot of items online, and as such, am used to the headaches of lost packages and delivery delays. I was completely shocked to come home not four days after placing the order to a huge box in the middle of our living room. And this was with standard shipping!
Tall and Hefty
I have to admit that this mattress is heavy. We had to drag the box into our bedroom. I had to grab hold of the box while my husband wriggled out the rolled up mattress. It was a little tough, but we had to maneuver to get the bulky load onto the bed frame. Maybe we were too used to our airbed (which we slept on directly on the floor) and needed time to adjust, but being on the bed with a 13 inch mattress made us feel too high up. I’m not sure if this mattress needs to be so thick; it has a 3 inch layer of gel memory foam, 2 inches of memory foam, and 8 inches of high density foam. Supposedly, they all serve a purpose – helping with support, pressure, and all that – but it seems like unnecessary height to me.
Cool Nights, Regardless of Season
Before we bought this mattress, my husband read in a gel memory foam mattress review that gel-infused foam doesn’t retain heat as much as other mattresses. As much as it embarrasses me to say this, we like cuddling as we sleep. The constant body contact, while nice, also generates a lot of heat, and I can never sleep through the night without waking up in a hot sweat. The gel memory foam in this mattress keeps me perfectly cool on summer nights. When it’s colder, it does get pleasantly chilly, which is fine because we have each other to warm up. The mattress does feel firm at first, but once it reacts to body heat, it gets really soft and cushions both of us according to our own levels of comfort.
- 20-year warranty
- CertiPUR-US certified
- Very soft
- Cooling effect
- A mattress the husband and I can agree on!
Cons
- Heavy
- Thicker mattress than we’re used to
We’ve had this mattress for a couple of months, and so far we haven’t noticed any deep body impressions or sagging. We have no doubt that our mattress will last for years. We were afraid that we’d be divided on this gel memory foam mattress review, but the truth is, we’re as in love with it as we are with each other.
